1. Who We Are

StoryNight ("we", "us", "our") is an iOS application that creates personalized, AI-generated bedtime stories for children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our app.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Child profiles: First name and age of the child(ren) the stories are created for. This is used solely to personalize story content.
• Story preferences: Story themes, moods, and custom notes you enter when generating stories.
• Custom story types: Any custom story categories you create within the app.

Information Collected Automatically

• Device information: OS version and device model, collected by Firebase App Check to verify requests come from genuine app installations.
• Purchase information: Subscription status managed by RevenueCat. We do not store payment card details; these are handled entirely by Apple and RevenueCat.
• App usage preferences: In-app settings such as theme, narrator voice, and language preference, stored locally on your device via Apple's UserDefaults.

What We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, or any contact information.
• We do not track your location.
• We do not collect photos or media from your device.
• We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics trackers.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Story generation: Child name and age are sent to our secure backend to personalise AI-generated story text (powered by Anthropic Claude) and illustrations (powered by fal.ai FLUX).
• App integrity: Firebase App Check tokens verify that requests originate from our official app.
• Subscription management: RevenueCat processes and validates your in-app purchase subscription.
• Notifications: If you enable bedtime reminders, we use your selected time (stored locally) to schedule local push notifications. No notification data leaves your device.

4. AI-Generated Content

Story text is generated by Anthropic's Claude API. Story illustrations are generated by fal.ai's FLUX model. The child's first name and age are included in the prompt to personalise content.

Prompts are transmitted securely via HTTPS to our Google Cloud Run backend and are not retained beyond the scope of a single request. We do not use your prompts to train AI models.

5. Data Storage and Security

• Stories, images, and child profiles are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
• Our backend (Google Cloud Run, us-central1) processes requests transiently and does not maintain a persistent database of your stories.
• All communications between the app and our backend are encrypted via TLS/HTTPS.
• API keys used by our backend are stored in Google Cloud Secret Manager and are never embedded in the app binary.

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

StoryNight is intended to be used by parents and caregivers on behalf of children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.

The child profile (name and age) is entered and controlled by the parent or guardian. This information is used only to personalise stories and is stored locally on the parent's device.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child without parental consent, please contact us immediately at the address below and we will delete it promptly.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share limited data only with the following service providers, strictly to operate the app:

• Anthropic – story text generation (prompt contains child's first name and age)
• fal.ai – story illustration generation (prompt contains child's first name)
• Google Firebase – App Check for request integrity verification
• RevenueCat – subscription and purchase management
• Google Cloud – backend hosting (Cloud Run, us-central1)

All third-party providers are bound by their own privacy policies and applicable data protection laws.

8. Your Rights and Choices

• Delete your data: You can delete any child profile or story directly within the app. Deleting a profile removes all associated stories from your device.
• Notifications: Bedtime reminders can be turned off at any time in Settings → Bedtime reminder, or through iOS Settings → Notifications.
• Subscription: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
